In Chicago, there may actually be some instances of aspiring high fashion models being told that they are “too commercial” by modeling agencies. And often, models are confused about this, not knowing if it is a compliment or being too commercial means that they are being rejected. What do they mean about being too commercial? Just what is commercial modeling?
The simplest way to answer this question is that commercial modeling in Chicago and many places around the country is a type of modeling that is broader and more general compared to other types. Commercial modeling is often compared with high fashion or editorial modeling. High fashion models are hired to model the fashion designs of high-end designers and are the highest paid ones among models. These models are rare because most aspiring male and female models do not meet the high standard required of a fashion model.
On the other hand, most commercial models do not possess all the high fashion print modeling requirements as well. And although fashion models have a higher paycheck than commercial models, the latter can still make good money, especially if they work in catalog modeling there in Chicago.
